A Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Friday, October 18. 2024, marks thirty-three (33) years of the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijan Society of America extends its heartfelt good wishes and congratulations to every Azerbaijani, both at home in Azerbaijan and abroad. This day every Azerbaijani celebrates our freedom, our culture and our priceless heritage. This day is also a reminder of our strength, unity and resilience.
Azerbaijan already had a centuries-long history of statehood and established the first ever-democratic Republic in the East in 1918. Unfortunately, Azerbaijan lost its state independence in 1920 only to restore it in 1991 in the wake of the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Since restoring its independence on October 18, 1991, Azerbaijan fought against terrorism and preventing nuclear proliferation. It became a model for ethnic and religious tolerance in a secular and predominately Muslim nation. Azerbaijan has become an important ally on global energy security and next month, will host one of the world’s largest and most important interstate events, COP29.
As we celebrate the restoration of our Independence, we also thank all the patriots of the past and present who have defended our nation and given us all a reason to celebrate, not only for our own future, but for all future generations.
The Azerbaijan Society of America wishes for the continuous development and prosperity for the Republic - and people - of Azerbaijan. Happy Independence Day Azerbaijan!
