Bir Millet, Iki Devlet!

Today, Azerbaijan Society of America Board Members held a meeting with Mr. Reyhan Özgür, Consulate General of Turkey. Board Members Tomris Azeri, Veli Mursalov, Rena Abasova and Leyla Aslanova discussed holding events at the Turkish House (Turk Evi) to celebrate the 104-year anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) and the 65 years of establishment of Azerbaijan Society of America.

Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) is the first Azerbaijani organization established in the United States in 1957. ASA always adhered to strong ethical values and principles of tolerance, respect, empathy and sincere appreciation for our traditions. Our membership composition has always included people of many different ethnic backgrounds, faiths and nationalities as this is how our founding fathers wanted to be.

The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, (ADR) was the first secular democratic parliamentary republic in the Turkic and Muslim worlds.

The establishment of ADR on May 28, 1918 was a historic event and one of the glorious pages in Azerbaijan's history. This significant date is celebrated as Republic Day in Azerbaijan every year.

The second event that was discussed with the Consulate General Özgür is an opportunity to bring Jewish Communities of the Turkic World into our Turk Evi, emphasizing the interest in promoting intercultural and interfaith dialog with these communities. Both of these two milestone events will be celebrated on May, 2022 in NYC.

Turk Evi (Turkish House) without a doubt is the most beautiful skyscraper in NYC. Reopened in 2021, the tower has the views of the Headquarters of the United Nations and the East River.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Consul General Özgür and his staff for their hospitality.
