Azerbaijan Society of America Congratulates Azerbaijan for hosting a historic and impactful COP29, an annual UN conference on climate change, which took place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan on November 11-22, 2024.
This pivotal gathering brought together tens of thousands of people from almost 200 countries and over 80 global leaders, visionaries, and stakeholders from all corners of the world to confront the challenges of climate change with unity, determination, and boldness. Azerbaijan has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable development, fostering global cooperation, and championing actionable solutions for a more resilient future.
COP29 in Baku was not just a platform for dialogue—it was a call to action. The decisions taken during this gathering are testament to Azerbaijan’s collective ability to forge transformative pathways for climate resilience and environmental stewardship. It is now incumbent upon every attending country and organization to honor these commitments with the same “can-do” spirit that defined the discussions.
COP29, concluded with a new finance goal to help countries to protect their people and economies against climate disasters. The successful conference reached a breakthrough agreement that will:
· Triple finance to developing countries, from the previous goal of USD 100 billion annually, to USD 300 billion annually by 2035.
· Secure efforts of all actors to work together to scale up finance to developing countries, from public and private sources, to the amount of USD 1.3 trillion per year by 2035.
The Azerbaijan Society of America proudly celebrates Azerbaijan’s leadership in making COP29 a resounding success. We remain steadfast in our dedication to supporting Azerbaijan’s efforts to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world for generations to come. As Azerbaijani-Americans we are also proud, once again, Azerbaijan highlighted its role as a bridge between diverse cultures, leveraging the conference to showcase reginal leadership in fostering international dialogue on climate issues.
Let us all carry forward the momentum of Baku, ensuring that the agreements made resonate far beyond the conference halls and translate into meaningful action. Together, we can—and will—create a brighter future.
With deep gratitude and optimism,
Azerbaijan Society of America
