Flags of Azerbaijan and America floating together in NYC Landmark in Honor of Azerbaijan Republic Day
New York- The flags of Azerbaijan and America was raised at an emblematic place for New Yorkers - the bronze bull statue on Broadway, near Wall Street, in the first park in America - Bowling Green as Azerbaijani-Americans celebrate 105th Anniversary of Azerbaijan Republic Day, the first secular parliamentary democracy established in the Muslim World. The event was organized by the Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA).
The event attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Mr. Elnur Mammadov, Ambassador Yashar Aliyev, Permanent representative to UN, Deputy Consul of Italy Riccardo Cursi and as well as Azerbaijani-American community and American friends of Azerbaijan.
The opening remark was made by Javid Mursalov, who is member of "Tomorrow's Young Leaders" group that is established under Azerbaijan Society of America. He highlighted the history and accomplishments of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic over its short 23 months of existence (1918- 1920).
National Anthems of Azerbaijan and America were sung live by Dr. Nigar Dargah-zada just before raising of two flags.
Azerbaijan Society of America started the tradition of raising the flags of Azerbaijan and America in 2010 at the Bowling Green Park. The flag raising events always attended by the NYC officials and by the officials of other friendly nations.
It is an honor to see the flags of Azerbaijan and America floating together above our heads. This symbolizes the hope of a future filled with optimism and the promise of continued positive and growing relations between Azerbaijan and America.
We are grateful to Ambassador Yashar Aliyev for inviting all the guests who attended the flag raising ceremony to late luncheon at Ali Baba restaurant in NYC, where everyone enjoyed sharing memories talking about future plans.
