The Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) joins the United States and the people around the world in solemnly commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001 a day that forever changed America and left an indelible mark on the conscience of humanity.
Twenty-five years have passed, yet for the families who lost husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and friends, the pain of September 11 remains deeply personal.
Nearly 3,000 innocent people from more than 90 countries lost their lives that morning. They represented many faiths, nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. They were Americans and citizens of the world, united only by the simple act of living their lives when unimaginable evil struck.
On that terrible day, firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, military personnel, airline crews, and countless civilians demonstrated a level of courage and selflessness that will forever remain part of America's history.
September 11, 2001, is a date that no American and no person who witnessed those events will ever forget. Twenty-five years later, our hearts remain with every family who lost a loved one and with all those whose lives were forever changed.
The Azerbaijan Society of America unequivocally condemns terrorism and all forms of violence against innocent people. We reject hatred, extremism, intolerance, and the targeting of people because of their nationality or faith. The tragedy of September 11 taught the world that the fight against terrorism is a shared responsibility and that no nation can confront such threats alone.
As Azerbaijani-Americans, we do not see ourselves as observers of America's history. We are part of the American story. America is our home, and when America hurts, our community hurts with it. When America stands strong, we stand strong with America. For generations, Azerbaijani-Americans have built their lives in the United States while maintaining a deep connection to their Azerbaijani heritage.
We are proud of the fact that Azerbaijan has stood with the United States in the fight against terrorism and has demonstrated its commitment to international security and cooperation. The friendship between Azerbaijan and the United States is important not only to our two nations, but also to the Azerbaijani-American community that proudly calls America home.
Our community has always believed that the strength of America comes from its diversity, its democratic values, its freedoms, and its ability to bring people of different backgrounds together under one flag. That spirit of unity must never be forgotten.
Today, we bow our heads in remembrance. We honor the victims. We salute the heroes. We stand beside the families who continue to carry their loss. And we reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the American people.
May we never forget September 11, 2001. May we never forget the lives that were lost. And may we always choose unity over division, compassion over hatred, and peace over violence.
America remembers. Azerbaijan remembers. The world remembers.
