Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) Celebrates Novruz Holiday with Family, Friends, and Community

New York, March 15, 2025 – The Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) hosted an unforgettable Novruz celebration at Baku Palace, bringing together the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. The event, held in honor of the New Year and the arrival of spring, showcased the beauty of Azerbaijani culture and featured a special program dedicated to the celebration of Novruz. The event brought together ASA members, families, and friends in a warm and festive atmosphere, reaffirming the strength of the ASA community.

The celebration was graced by the esteemed Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, Ambassador Tofiq Musayev, along with his entire staff and their families. The presence of such distinguished guests further underscored the importance of the event and the shared commitment to fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and the United States.

Shevrin Hosman, started the celebration by warmly welcoming the guests. The heart of the event was the introduction of the Spring Girl, Shannen Hosman, who personified the spirit of renewal and growth that Novruz symbolizes. Her vibrant energy, beautiful traditional costume and charm added to the excitement of the evening, setting the tone for the festivities.

In addition to Shannen, four young girls representing each of the four Tuesdays leading up to Novruz shared their insights into the significance of each week in Azerbaijani tradition. Tansu Suleymanli, Aliya Syed, Lala Heydarova, and Jeyla Gadirli, each beautifully embodied the themes of the corresponding Tuesdays before Novruz, providing a deeper understanding of the cultural practices tied to the holiday.

While enjoying the delicious Azerbaijani cuisine and traditional Novruz desserts, guests were treated to a captivating live performance by renowned artist Veronika Yakubova and Samir, whose powerful and heartfelt music brought a special touch to the evening.

The success of the Novruz Celebration was truly a collective effort, with everyone contributing their unique skill and dedication. From planning to execution, everyone’s hard work and collaboration played a crucial role in bringing this event to life. We are proud of the teamwork that made this celebration memorable and impactful to everyone involved.

Azerbaijan Society of America is more than just an organization, we are a family. Every year, we come together to celebrate not just Novruz but also to celebrate the bonds we share. This year’s celebration once again proved that our ASA family is united in our passion for our heritage, and in our commitment to the success of all our events.

As Novruz symbolizes the arrival of spring, renewal, and unity, the ASA’s celebration reflected these values, leaving all who attended with a sense of joy and hope for the year ahead.
