“Jewish Communities of the Turkic World”

Azerbaijan Society of America, under the auspices of the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in NYC, held a reception on Wednesday May 11th at the Turkish House.

"The Jewish Communities of the Turkic World" Shared Values from the Past to the Future"

The reception was well attended by The Bukharian Jews, The Caucasus Jews, Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews.

The relationship between Muslims and Jews have common values and shared history permeate the modern relationship, all are enriched by the human connections between them and a determination to live in diverse and religiously tolerant societies.

The opening remarks made by the President of Azerbaijan Society of America, Tomris Azeri, emphasizing on the Jewish communities living in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan for centuries in respect, harmony and in peace with tradition of tolerance and interaction.

Consulate General Reyhan Ozgur, indicated that the ancient peoples with different religions coexisted for centuries on the territories of the Turkic World. They all have the freedom of speech, freedom of worship and celebrating their festivals and holding their mourning ceremonies in freedom.

Dr. David Pinkhasov, Vice-President of the Congress of Bukharian Jews of USA and Canada talked about the Jewish community in Uzbekistan and Mr. Yakov Abramov, Chairman of Association of Azerbaijani Jewish Community in the USA, inspired us with their thoughts and profound feelings of their heritage.

The evening continued with a performance from Tamara Kataev of the Bukharian Jewish community.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Consul General Reyhan Ozgur, for opening the doors to the most beautiful building in NYC, The Turkish House, for this warm reception.
