Happy New Year, Happy World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day!
Happy New Year, Happy World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the wonderful contributions each of you had made to our organization over the past year.
Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) has a successful 2023, January 2023, started with a movie screening of a docu-drama :The Legend of Khari Bulbul" by Swedish photographer and filmmaker Mikael Silkeberg and Jeffrey Werbock. Members and friends of ASA, united and helped Turkiye with devastating earthquake by sending 12 Coleman weather master 10-person outdoor tents to help our brotherly nation, this was done by the generous donations of our members. In March a very successful Novruz Celebration at Baku Palace was organized. We announced a special scholarship in 2023 honoring the 100th Birthday of the great Azerbaijani politician, President Heydar Aliyev. The winner of this scholarship was a special girl who was born in Azerbaijan and adopted by an American mother. On May 2023, ASA raised the flags of Azerbaijan and America at the emblematic place for New Yorkers at Bowling Green. In August an annual picnic was organized at Ross Dock Picnic Area in New Jersey. In November with the full sponsorship of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, a memorable event was held in New York City's prestigious Yale Club to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Heydar Aliyev.
A brand-new year is upon us and with the start of a new year comes the evaluations of the previous year and the creation of New Year's resolutions, new ideas and plans. Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) does have few exciting projects to look forward to, few plans for innovation. Encouraging our American born youth to get involved in community activities and volunteering to build skills is just one of them. They have already formed a media alert group and read and follow all the news about Azerbaijan in the American media. If necessary appropriate comments are posted to each news.
Getting involve with other Diaspora communities to build stronger support, opportunities, mutual learning and focusing on our common interests are also in plans for ASA. We will work together and organize community days with Pakistani-American, Italian-American and Jewish-American communities. At ASA, we always embraced diversity, tolerance, understanding and believed in working with other communities. We want our American born youth to get involved working, respecting other communities and learn from them. We believed this will lead our community to greater prosperity and together we will be stronger. This is the mission of ASA.
Our Azerbaijani homeland is naturally important to us and we cherish our ethnic Azerbaijani identity but the only way we can have any meaningful impact in the United States is through productive and impactful community. It is important to know and work with our elected officials. ASA is planning a community trip to visit the New Jersey State Capitol and to the Capitol Hill and meet our representatives and to introduce our American born youth. Advocating for our common goals are important.
ASA also forming a Board of Trustees, with the contributions of this group, we will be able to continue with our Scholarship programs and other programs which will help us achieve our goals.
Let's start the year off with plenty of energy and determination, let's continue to grow and shine in the coming year. Let's face all the challenges with courage and see even better results.
Happy World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day!
