Voorhees Township 15th Annual Community Service Awards Dinner

The Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) was a (gold) sponsor of the Voorhees Township 15th Annual Community Service Awards Dinner. The event was held at Lucien's Distinguished Catering Hall in New Jersey, also a flagship fundraiser. The event was attended by the elected officials and the Honorable Mayor of Voorhees Township Michael Mignogna.

ASA, as a Gold Sponsor, gave us the opportunity to promote Azerbaijan, recognized and mentioned by each speaker. Outstanding Voorhees Citizen of the Year award was presented to our friend Mr. Aqil Khan, a Pakistani-American who was also honored by the US Congress, his name was placed on the Congressional record during the first session of the Proceeding and debates of the 114th Congress. Mr. Khan was also honored by the New Jersey State Senate. Among his many recognitions and awards, Mr. Khan is also the recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Medal.

Mr. Khan is very much aware of and respects the good relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. Our Plan is to further these good relations among our communities here in the United States. One of ASA's New Year resolutions is to engage more with other Diaspora communities to build stronger support, opportunities, mutual learning and work on our common interests. ASA always embraced diversity, tolerance, understanding and it is our standing policy to work directly with other communities for increasing awareness of Azerbaijan and its good relations with other communities.

The Business Person of the Year and the Selfless Student of the Year awards were also given to: Mr. Luigi Epifanio and Kaylyn Joesten,

Our profound gratitude to Stella Sytnik, an Events organizer and Business Developer at Voorhees Township Municipality. We have known and worked with Stella on many projects. Stella Sytnik was born in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan and is a great friend of Azerbaijan and our diaspora organization.
