Khojaly Massacre, Europe's Worst Atrocity since World War II
The Azerbaijani people all over the world commemorating the 31st anniversary of the bloodiest massacre that took place in their country's history.
The night of February 25th into 26th, 1992, 613 people were brutally killed, including women, children and elderly. Families completely annihilated, civilians were tortured to death, children lost both parents, 487 wounded and 150 still missing.
This painful tragedy happened in a cold winter night, freezing and snow on the ground when Armenian troops marched into homes and started firing and killing innocent people. They were either shot to dead by Armenian soldiers or froze to death as they tried to flee.
Brutal eyewitness reports carried by the Times of London, Reuters, The New York Times, The Washington Post and others spoke of beheadings of children, of mass graves, of journalists walking through streets littered with dead civilians. The victims were Azerbaijani civilians; their attackers were the Armenian Army.
Khojaly, is an ancient city in Karabakh region of Azerbaijan which reflected the history and traditions of Azerbaijan. Armenian vandals also caused destruction to all the material culture and the monuments.
