United and Helping Turkiye!

As the devastating impact of the earthquake unfolds, it is clear that our collective efforts are required to support the many families left without a home and access to basic necessities of life. The need of dignified shelter against the cold and freezing temperatures was urgent.

Well over 40 thousand people were killed by two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Turkiye. The 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude quakes were centered in Kahramanmaras, Hatay and struck other  provinces, More than 13 million people have been affected by the devastating quakes.

Azerbaijan Society of America members and supporters immediately searched for ways to help.  With the help of our generous members, funds were collected and we were able to purchase 12 Coleman Weather Master 10-person outdoor tents, with welded floors and inverted seams to keep warm and dry.  The tents were shipped to the Turkish House in NYC  for delivery.

In addition, Azerbaijan Society of America's "Tomorrow's Young Leaders" started collecting winter clothing, blankets,  and many basic necessities and delivered them to the Turkish Consulate General's offices in Boston and in New York City.

We acknowledge Turkiye will need our help in a sustained way for a long time because the destruction and devastation are beyond imagination. Many children are left without parents, and at Azerbaijan Society of America, many members are eager to help sponsor an orphan.

We share the pain and feel the devastation and are willing and able to help anyway we can.
