Azerbaijan Society of America Celebrates the Day of Restoration of Independence and Victory Day.
Philadelphia, PA — October 25, 2025 — The Azerbaijan Society of America proudly joined our community in Philadelphia to celebrate two of the most meaningful days in Azerbaijan’s modern history, October 18, the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and November 8, Victory Day, marking Azerbaijan’s victory in the Second Karabakh War.
October 18, 1991, stands as a defining moment in Azerbaijan’s history, the day our nation restored its independence and reclaimed its rightful place on the world stage. For Azerbaijani-Americans, this day is not only a historical milestone but also a deeply personal one, a day that embodies the resilience, strength, and unbreakable spirit of our people.
November 8 holds an equally special place in our hearts. It is a day of pride and unity, celebrating the liberation of Shusha, the cultural and spiritual heart of Azerbaijan. On this glorious day in 2020, after nearly 30 years of occupation, the Azerbaijani flag once again waved proudly over Shusha a moment that brought tears of joy and pride to Azerbaijanis everywhere.
Both of these days remind us that no matter where we live, near or far, our hearts beat with the same love for our homeland. They are a reflection of who we are: a nation of courage, dignity, and pride.
This year’s celebration took place at Asia Mix Restaurant in Philadelphia, where Azerbaijani-Americans came together as one community, sharing stories, memories, and joy. The evening was made even more special by the participation of our youth Maqsud Suleymanlı,Tansu Suleymanlı, Leyla Turabova and Medine Turabova, American children of proud Azerbaijani heritage, who gave heartfelt presentations about the importance of these historic days. Their words reminded us all of why it is so important to keep our heritage alive and to pass on our pride to the next generation growing up in America.
These days are not just about history, they are about identity, about who we are as Azerbaijanis, seeing the young children speak about Azerbaijan with such love gives us hope and pride for the future.
The Azerbaijan Society of America extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, supported, and shared in these meaningful celebrations. We express our profound gratitude to Shirazi Abdullayev and Gullu Maharova, two distinguished leaders of the Azerbaijani community in Philadelphia who have long served as strong and dedicated pillars of our community. Shirazi Bey and Gullu Hanɪm were born and raised in Agdam, Azerbaijan, a city that holds a special place in the hearts of all Azerbaijanis.
We are also deeply grateful to Hikmet Suleymanlı for connecting us with the wonderful venue and helping to organize such a successful evening.
Together, we honor our past, take pride in our present, and look forward with hope to our future.
