Celebrating Triumph: Azerbaijan Society of America Marks the Joy of Victory
The Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) stands together with our families, friends and fellow community members across the United States and the world in heartfelt celebration of the fifth anniversary of our hard-won triumph in the Second Nagorno‑Karabakh War, often called the “44-Day War.” This day is more than a commemoration of military success it is a renewal of hope, a reaffirmation of identity and a tribute to the enduring spirit of our people.
From September 27 to November 9, 2020, our sisters and brothers in Azerbaijan endured nearly three decades of occupation, yearning for the day they could return home. In those 44 days, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces fueled by the collective will of a people longing for justice and home rose to reclaim our lands. The world watched, and we saw our homeland turn from mourning into hope, from loss into liberation.
We honor and remember the courageous souls who laid down their lives, mothers’ sons, fathers’ daughters, friends from our communities so that justice might flourish. Their sacrifice is etched in our memory, the soil of our liberated land, and the hearts of every Azerbaijani both in the homeland and across the diaspora. On this day of remembrance and gratitude, we extend our hands and hearts to every family touched by loss, every veteran who carries the weight of what was endured, and every young person whose future was reclaimed.
Emerging from the war’s ashes, the Karabakh region now rises anew. Once destroyed villages and towns are being rebuilt, children are returning to school, hospitals are reopening, homes are being rebuilt, and life is returning to the land of our ancestors. The returning families embody the power of hope renewed, of communities restored and of generations reconnecting to their heritage.
To the wider Azerbaijani-American community: this day belongs to all of us. Whether you were born in Baku, or arrived in the United States with dreams, whether your grandparents spoke of exile or of homecoming, we are united. We hold this anniversary as a beacon a reminder that we are stronger together, rooted in culture, propelled by solidarity, and inspired by the victory that awakened our collective pride.
As we mark the fifth anniversary of Victory Day, let us lift our voices in unison: for peace, for prosperity, for return, for the next generation. Let us live the memory of our heroes by embodying compassion, service and the unwavering belief that homecoming is more than a journey it is a promise kept.
Today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we build. United we stand Azerbaijanis everywhere, tied by memory, faith, and the promise of tomorrow.
