Azerbaijan Society of America Welcomes President Putin’s Acknowledgement of Responsibility for Azerbaijani Jet Tragedy.
New York, NY – The Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) welcomes and acknowledges the recent statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the tragic downing of the Azerbaijani jet, which resulted in the loss of 62 lives. Among the victims were 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian citizens, six Kazakh citizens, and three from Kyrgyzstan. Two children were also among those lost.
This act of transparency follows calls from President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, who firmly demanded that Moscow take responsibility for the incident that has deeply affected the Azerbaijani nation and diaspora worldwide.
Azerbaijani-Americans appreciate President Putin’s decision to publicly acknowledge Russia’s role in this tragedy While no words can restore the lives lost, this act of accountability is a necessary and important step toward justice and healing for the families of the victims and the people of Azerbaijan.
The crash, which occurred under circumstances now confirmed to involve Russian actions, sent shockwaves through Azerbaijan and its global communities. For decades, the Azerbaijani-American community has stood for truth, justice, and the recognition of historical and contemporary events affecting our people. The ASA believes that accountability and transparency are essential components of peace and stability in the region.
