Azerbaijan Society of America Welcomes Prime Minister Pashinyan’s Remarks Supporting Regional Peace
The Azerbaijan Society of America welcomes the recent remarks by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan acknowledging the historical and political reality regarding Karabakh. Prime Minister Pashinyan’s statements reflect what the international community, including the United States, the United Nations and many other major international organizations, has long recognized: Karabakh is internationally recognized sovereign territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
For decades, Azerbaijan consistently defended its territorial integrity and sovereignty in accordance with international law. The position expressed by Prime Minister Pashinyan underscores a reality that Azerbaijan has repeatedly affirmed before the world community that claims portraying Karabakh as Armenian territory have no basis in international law.
The Azerbaijan Society of America commends Prime Minister Pashinyan for demonstrating political courage and statesmanship in addressing difficult historical and regional issues openly. We recognize his efforts as those of a leader seeking peace, normalization, and stability in the South Caucasus. Constructive dialogue and acceptance of internationally recognized realities are essential foundations for lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
We also express our hope that the Armenian people will continue supporting a peaceful future for the region. The Azerbaijan Society of America looks forward to congratulating Prime Minister Pashinyan following successful future elections and to seeing continued progress toward reconciliation, regional cooperation, and prosperity for all peoples of the South Caucasus.
At the same time, we regret that certain elements within segments of the Armenian diaspora continue to dispute internationally recognized facts and promote narratives that hinder reconciliation. Attempts to deny Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Karabakh only prolong division and undermine opportunities for durable peace in the region.
The Azerbaijan Society of America remains committed to supporting peace, mutual respect, and international law, while fostering greater understanding of Azerbaijan’s history, culture, and rightful territorial integrity.
